Las Vegas police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash in September that left a victim fighting for his life after an error by the Clark County Coroner’s Office erroneously reported him as dead.
The incident occurred on September 15, 2024, when a driver struck 37-year-old Brandon Green while crossing the street, according to a press release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). The perpetrator fled the scene, leaving Green critically injured.
The victim was rushed to University Medical Center for Treatment, the LVMPD reported. The department updated the press release two days later, stating that the Clark County Coroner’s Office had informed them that Green had succumbed to his injuries. The coroner’s office later stated on September 18 that it had made a mistake — Green was actually alive and undergoing treatment for brain bleeding, blood clots, and fractures. His wife, Esther Acosta, described the emotional rollercoaster she went through learning about her husband’s death only to find out he was still alive.
“It’s like I had been hit, you know like I was just in complete shock. It was unbelievable. I just couldn’t believe it,” she told 8 News Now.

Doctors told Acosta that her husband will remain in the hospital for at least two to three months as he recovers. The police department continues its search for the suspect.
“You should be frightened with living knowing you did that for the rest of your life and not saying anything, you should be frightened about that, not about the consequences. The consequences are the least of it,” Acosta said in a statement to the unknown driver.
