Just when you thought you’d heard it all, a prospective juror in the case against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs reportedly evaded service due to his drug habit.
The unidentified juror was excused after revealing his smoking addiction on May 6, the second day of jury selection, according to People.
“I smoke marijuana personally for recreational use,” the man told the court during proceedings. He assured the court it wouldn’t make him a biased juror but couldn’t deny that his drug use might impact his judgement. Cannibas is legal for adults who are at least 21 years old, according to the city’s government website.
The man openly admitted to smoking weed the night before he appeared in court when asked if he could stop for the duration of the trial, People reported. His confession made this one of the easiest yet most embarrassing ways to get out of jury duty.

He said managing not to smoke throughout the proceedings, expected to last around eight weeks, would be difficult and was dismissed.
The reality of the man’s addiction is a sad reflection of the current state of affairs in America.

Combs is facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. The prosecution alleges Combs orchestrated “freak offs” and claim they were “elaborate and produced sex performances,” according to People.
Jury selection is expected to be completed May 7 and will include a total of 45 jurors, 35 of which have already been locked in. Presumably they aren’t hooked on weed, or at the very least have better sense than to declare their bad habits in the courtroom.
Combs’ former girlfriend, Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura is expected to testify in court. (RELATED: Could The Case Against ‘Diddy’ Have Gone Up In LA Wildfire Flames?)
Combs has been in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September 2024, and has been denied bail a total of three times.
He faces life in prison if convicted.
