House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Vice President JD Vance echoed at the March for Life that the pro-life movement has the governmental influence it needs to continue to pass consistent legislation. There is value, then, in working with Left-allied pro-life groups to accomplish the requisite cultural changes.
Groups of which are few, as recently reaffirmed by the commitment of every Senate Democrat to vote against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Personal belief is hardly the only driver in the senators’ gruesome decisions: They also seek to secure reelection, and they know the vehement support among their constituents.
Still, some, such as the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising, exist. Members look and speak — “intersectional” is descriptive of all of their stances — just like their left-wing peers, with the crucial difference of abortion. Their radical divergence from the anti-abortion Right, both in their approach to abortion and the social issues they otherwise support, signals that the problem is an unconvinced public.
And if the culture is resistant, the road will be rougher than necessary. Johnson assured the March for Life crowd, “House and Senate Republicans are committed to protecting innocent human life. We will do it.” His is a strong statement, and one can be confident that Johnson himself, at least, means it.
As Vance, also present at the march, mentioned again and again the fullest sense of “pro-family,” he reinforced the fact that cultural progress begins with life. Support for parents, social trust, and any other semblance of conservative morals are all dependent on the shared value of life.

In that value, common pro-lifers have an odd but welcome alliance with anti-capitalist, feminist activists. The PAAU is proud to rank the anti-abortion movement first among its concerns because all it takes is the true recognition of life in an unborn baby to impress its gravity.
“This administration stands by you, with you, and with the most vulnerable,” Vance said at the march. Granted the support of the most powerful in government, it is up to the pro-lifers to use that gift: They must live consistent lives and spread the good news of life.
