Yeah, they did! And holy hell!
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, head coach Tom Thibodeau has been fired by the New York Knicks.
Thibodeau’s exit follows New York losing in six games against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals. It was the first appearance in 25 years for the Knicks in the conference finals. In his five campaigns as the leader of New York, Thibodeau took the Knickerbockers to the postseason in four of them, and the team also tallied back-to-back 50+ win seasons for the first time since they did so in the 1990s.
Thibodeau, who is now 67-years-old, recorded a 226-174 record as the skipper of the Knicks. In the playoffs, he went 24-23.
The “organization is singularly focused on their pursuit of a championship and believe a new voice will serve as the focus for the organization’s next step,” according to the team’s president, Leon Rose, in a statement to ESPN.
