Sebastian Stan said he was forced to cancel his appearance on Variety’s “Actors On Actors” because fellow Hollywood stars were too scared to discuss Donald Trump.
The 43-year-old actor portrays Trump in the biopic “The Apprentice,” and spoke of the recent cancelation during a screening of the movie, in a video shared to social media Nov. 19.
“I had an opportunity to do Variety Actors On Actors this Friday, and I couldn’t find another actor to do it with me because they were too afraid to go and talk about this movie,” he said. “I’ve gotten to do a lot of great things, but and that’s not pointing at anyone specific. We couldn’t get past the publicists or the people representing them because they were too afraid to talk about this movie, and I think that’s when we lose the situation, because if it really becomes like that fear or that discomfort to talk about this then we’re really going to have a problem,” he noted.
“So I couldn’t do it, and it doesn’t matter. That’s ok — that’s not to point a finger at anybody,” he said.
Stan went on to reference an article published by The New York Times, and the message he gathered was “we have to stop pretending that Trump is not one of us.”
“You cannot keep casting this person aside especially after they get the popular vote,” he said.
“Should we not give this a closer look to try to understand what it is about this person that’s even driving that?”
The crowd applauded him for sharing his perspective.
Stan previously blasted Trump, calling him “one paranoid, scared little man,” in an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.

“The Apprentice” stars Stan as a young Trump and includes contentious scenes that depict Trump’s personal and professional life in ways the president-elect say are untrue.
“The Apprentice” was released Oct. 11.
