Houston Texans cornerback Kris Boyd threw off his helmet and shoved special teams coordinator Frank Ross in the chest after kickoff in Saturday’s divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs had launched a kickoff return through wide receiver Nikko Remigio, who waltzed through the Texans’ coverage in a race for the end zone. Boyd appeared to lunge at Remigio and hauled him down, making him lose his grip on the ball. Boyd then peeled away and tossed his helmet in apparent celebration.
Boyd’s celebration was premature, however, as Chiefs running back Samaje Perine recovered the fumble. Boyd bagged a penalty which would be enforced half the distance to the goal for his unsportsmanlike act of throwing his helmet. An exasperated-looking Ross then approached Boyd on the field, who shoved Ross back toward the sideline, to the chagrin of some spectators. Boyd’s shove drew criticism. “This guy Kris Boyd, you gotta take his pads, his helmet and you give him not a plane ticket, [but] a bus ticket back to Houston. What a loser,” Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy commented.

Others suggested Boyd would have lost access to the training ground or be working at McDonald’s by Monday. Still, others claimed Boyd was merely hyped up and shoved Ross in celebration.
The Chiefs went on to score a field goal to which the Texans replied withome of their own. The Chiefs eventually emerged victorious over the Texans, 23-14.
Boyd was not benched, instead resuming his place in the special team, ESPN reported.
