The Wildest And Weirdest Moments From The 2025 Golden Globe Awards The Wildest And Weirdest Moments From The 2025 Golden Globe Awards

Thankfully Nikki Glaser killed it as the host of the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, because the rest of the night played out like a sloppy shitshow.

The 82nd annual Golden Globes aired Jan. 5 with arguably the best host that any award gala has seen in a very long time, but even Glaser’s quit-wit and edgy humor couldn’t detract from the glitches, awkward moments, and horrible outfits. There were some seriously bizarre things going on with this program that made it challenging to watch, and some moments that were downright cringey.

One would think that an award show dedicated to the very best in Hollywood would be able to get their camera angles and technology right – but that was not the case at all. This year’s Golden Globes forced presenters to stand at an angle instead of facing the audience in the traditional manner, and it was an absolute disaster. The camera picked up all the weird moments as stars attempted to shuffle to their seats by ducking, thinking they were underneath the camera’s view. One celebrity after another walked by in the background, looking goofy and awkward. They were hunched over as they tried to duck and scurry, but the show aired every one of those moments that were seemingly unavoidable at that angle.

Viewers could see people taking photos backstage, and Seth Rogen even called out how uncomfortable he felt about the position of the cameras. He presented the best Female Actor in a Limited Series category with Catherine O’Hara and confronted the camera issue head-on. “Hello. I want to start by saying this whole angled camera thing is very weird. It’s inelegant, it’s strange, this whole half of the room can see my bald spot, I would have filled that in,” he quipped.

At one point, the camera facing the stage flickered and switched over to a backstage feed that showed crew members and people dressed in running shoes and casual clothing in what appeared to be the basement of the venue. If you blinked you missed it – but it happened.

This year’s show also included arrows pointing to each nominee’s location in the room, and quirky “fun facts” written at the bottom of the screen each time a winner and presenter’s name appeared and they made their way to the stage. Nobody cared.

The the long walk to the stage was dreadful, and has to be addressed. None of the celebrities made it to the stage elegantly and quickly. Viewers were forced to wait for the stars to get through the maze, which just made the show more long and boring than usual.

Another brutal camera moment unfolded during the a speech by Emilia Perez director Jacques Audiard, and the Globes can’t blame this particular one on technology. Audiard thanked the film’s Spanish transgender star Gascón, but the cameras cut to a shot of  Sofia Vergara, instead. Vergara is definitely not transgender, and she happens to be Colombian. Yikes!

The mistakes kept coming. It was just a matter of time before the camera cut to Gary Oldman when they announced Hiroyuki Sanada’s win for Best Television Male Actor in “Shogun.”

The reputability of the show took another hit when Jeremy Allen White won Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical TV Series for his role in “The Bear,” beating out Ted Danson for “A Man on the Inside,” Adam Brody of “Nobody Wants This,” Steve Martin for “Only Murderers in the Building,” Jason Segel for “Shrinking,” and Martin Short for “Only Murders in the Building. By comparison, “The Bear” doesn’t fit into the comedic category at all.  It added insult to injury when White wasn’t even there to collect the award. Perhaps they could get the categories sorted out before the show next year.

Zoe Saldana was in the building to collect the hardware for her big win – but then, she wouldn’t go away. “Emilia Pérez” won Best Original Song for “El Mar,” and songwriters Clément Ducol and Camille took to the stage to accept the award. For some odd reason, Saldana seemed to think this was an invitation for her to snatch the spotlight again. She stood up and practically rushed the stage. She ran right up the steps and took the award out of someone else’s hands. She bounced around the stage and presented the award to the songwriters in a wildly chaotic manner. It looked desperate and sad, and definitely gave off attention-seeking vibes.

The weirdness of the show continued when Vin Diesel took the stage as a presenter and awkwardly shouted out to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The two were engaged in a very public feud, and the focus he put on greeting Johnson was out of place and seemed far too intentional.

Kieran Culkin also had a wonky on-stage moment. His acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor for “A Real Pain,” included a confession that he and his wife had just done tequila shots with Mario Lopez. He followed up that comment by saying going to see a therapist was “not fine. It’s a lot of work.” How much of that bottle did he drink? There were some shining moments over the course of the evening – most thanks to Glaser – but none made me happier than watching the credits roll at the end, signaling the end of the show.
