It’s rockin’ in the D!
The ALDS Game 2 matchup between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians went all the way to the ninth inning before there was a score, and though that might sound a little boring, Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter made it all worth it when he came to the plate.
Cleveland was attempting to set themselves up nicely for a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth, putting in their star closing pitcher Emmanuel Clase. If you’re not familiar with Clase, he’s nearly impossible to hit, only allowing an incredible 10 runs against him in the 2024 campaign. But Carpenter accepted the challenge, smashing a 423-foot three-run home run to give Detroit a 3-0 lead, and eventually a 1-1 series tie as the Guardians failed to score (again) in their frame of the inning. And to make it even crazier: It was the first three-run homer ever that Clase allowed in his entire career in MLB — and he’s been in the league for five years!
Now that’s playoff baseball.

DEEETROOOIT BASKETBAAAALLLLL! Oops, wrong sport, but you get my point.
The D has always been one of those cities to me where I respect the gritty and blue-collar nature, and I’ve got a big rivalry against Cleveland being a Miami sports fan, so I’m all for this.
And after all, who doesn’t like an underdog story?
