(The Center Square) – North Carolina’s senior senator will be serving on his chamber’s committees for Veterans Affairs and the Judiciary while the junior senator has a seat on the Committee on Armed Services, one of three on which he is retained from the 118th Congress.

The 119th Congress, with 53-47 majority in the Senate, was sworn in on Friday.

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis is on respective committees on Veterans Affairs; Judiciary; Finance; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; and Security and Cooperation in Europe. Chairmen of those committees, respectively, are Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kansas; Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho; Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.; and as cochairman Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss.

Republican Sen. Ted Budd is on respective committees on Armed Services; Commerce, Science and Transportation; Small Business and Entrepreneurship; and the Joint Economic Committee. Chairmen of those committees, respectively, are Wicker; Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas; Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa; and Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo.

Tillis was first elected in the 2014 midterms and gained a second term in 2020. Budd was elected in 2022.

In a release on Friday upon receiving his assignments, Budd said, “I am excited to continue my work on behalf of North Carolina on the Senate Armed Services, Commerce, and Small Business Committees. My service on the Joint Economic Committee will focus on creating prosperity for North Carolina and the entire nation. These committee assignments offer a major opportunity to make life better for the citizens of North Carolina, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
