President-elect Donald Trump announced that he will be naming Kari Lake as the next director of the Voice of America.

Voice of America is a media network broadcast internationally in over 40 languages. It is funded by the U.S. government and provides “news, information, and cultural programming through the internet, mobile and social media, radio, and television.” It originally debuted during World War II in 1942 to advance U.S. news and communications worldwide.

Lake, who previously was a news anchor in Arizona from 1999 to 2021, left the media to pursue a political career. A political neophyte in 2022, she won the Republican nomination for Arizona governor that year. She followed that by winning the Republican nomination for Arizona’s U.S. Senate seat in 2024 to replace Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ).

Trump announced the position with a post on his Truth Social account.

“I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America,” Trump stated. “She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media.”

Lake expressed gratitude for the position in a post on X. She touted the significance of Voice of America and her enthusiasm to start her new role.
