Imagine playing college football for eight years … That could be a reality for Cam Rising.
The Utah quarterback unfortunately saw his 2024 season come to an end recently. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean his career in college football is a wrap.
Kyle Whittingham, head coach of the Utes, made the announcement Monday that Rising won’t be active indefinitely because of an injury to his lower leg. With that being said, though, Rising actually has eligibility to come back for a whopping eighth season of college pigskin by using a medical redshirt. (RELATED: GIRL FIGHT! “We’ll have to consider it, not sure if Cam has considered it,” stated Whittingham.
Earlier in the campaign, Rising was dealing with another injury to his finger and only played in three contests. Last Saturday’s game taking on Arizona State saw Rising throw for 209 yards and three interceptions, with Utah getting handed a 27-19 defeat that brought down their record to 4-2.

As we go further along in the world of college football, it appears that this is becoming more and more common, but it’s still crazy that somebody can play EIGHT years at the university level — wild.
