CHRIS BERMAN IS BACK!
When ESPN first started, legendary broadcaster Chris Berman was one of their original employees when they hired him in their first year as a company. And he’s had such an iconic career that he will be lucky enough to be at the four-letter network for their 50th anniversary, which is in 2029.
One of sports’ greatest jewels has inked a multi-year contract extension that will eclipse the anniversary. Having turned 70 years old here in 2025, Berman is guaranteed to be a part of the Super Bowl broadcast that ESPN is airing in 2027 thanks to his fresh deal. (RELATED: ‘Who Cares? “I came to ESPN at 24 years young for my first full-time TV job. I had a full head of hair, was wet behind the ears, and my assignment was to host the wrap-up SportsCenter at 2:30 a.m. ESPN had been on the air for less than a month, and we had fewer than 100 employees,” said Berman in an official statement to Front Office Sports.
“Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined turning 70 and still being here at our network, which long ago became an icon of sports broadcasting. We’re closing in on our very first Super Bowl, and now I will be able to be part of that, too.”
Doing so for ABC, Berman was an anchor for Super Bowl pregame shows on three occasions — 2000, 2003 and 2006. With the 2006 edition, it was the final “Big Game” broadcasted by ABC Sports. The Super Bowl in 2027 will be the first time ever that it’s carried on ESPN. The game will also be simulcasted on ABC.
