Fox News host Harris Faulkner shut down an effort on Monday by a Democratic strategist to talk about abortion instead of polling numbers in swing states.

Former President Donald Trump leads Vice President Kamala Harris in the states of Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina, according to a New York Times/Siena poll released Monday. Faulkner asked Democratic strategist Antjuan Seawright about the polling showing a close race, only for Seawright to attempt to turn the discussion to abortion. “Well, Harris, I have to respond to my friend on the other side,” Seawright said after Republican strategist Cassie Smedile noted Harris would be skipping the Al Smith dinner. “Joe Biden is a practicing Catholic, and he believes a woman should be trusted —”

“Wait a minute, wait a minute,” Faulkner said, cutting Seawright off. “We want to talk about polling, and I respect that, I respect you have more to say about why Kamala Harris is not going to a large gathering, including the archbishop Timothy Dolan, with the Al Smith dinner, mainly with Catholics, Catholic Charities, in that audience. I respect that, but we’re talking about polling now. Less than a minute left. Antoine.”

Seawright called the election between Trump and Harris a “50/50 jump ball” after Faulkner chided him over his effort to change the subject.

“I’m proud of how she’s articulated her agenda to the American people versus concepts of a plan or versus saying black Haitian immigrants are eating cats and dogs in Springfield, Ohio,” Seawright said. “We would love to have the policy contrast conversation continuously.”

Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022 by upholding a Mississippi law that restricted abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy, Democrats made access to the procedure a top campaign issue, including Harris, who has repeatedly criticized the ruling.

Trump trails Harris by 2.2% in the RealClearPolling average of polls from September 3 to 20, with the vice president’s lead increasing to an average of 2.6% when Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein, independent candidate Cornel West and Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver are included in surveys.
